Aggregate traffic and search data only; no client-side advertising identifiers.

Today

What we collect today

  • ComputeTape is a static site. No user accounts, comments, checkout, or logged-in personalization are active.
  • Cloudflare Web Analytics measures aggregate page views, referrers, device types, and general location. It does not use client-side cookies to identify individual readers.
  • Google Search Console provides aggregate Google Search impressions, clicks, queries, pages, positions, and indexing signals. It does not add tracking code to ComputeTape pages.
  • Hosting, CDN, and edge providers process standard technical logs such as IP address, user agent, request path, and timestamp for security and reliability.
  • If you email a ComputeTape mailbox, the contents of your message and your email address are received by ComputeTape.

Compute College

Compute College progress

  • ComputeTape may store anonymous Compute College progress events, such as which learning paths are started and which lessons or calculators are marked complete. This helps improve the learning experience and does not require an account, name, or email address.
  • Progress shown to you is stored in your browser. ComputeTape records anonymous path and completion events on its own infrastructure using a random browser identifier and a session identifier, neither of which is tied to your name, email, or login identity.
  • These events do not store your name, email, login identity, raw IP address, or any calculator inputs. You can clear your tracked progress at any time using the reset link on the Compute College page.

Cookies

Cookies and similar technologies

  • ComputeTape does not currently set advertising, profiling, or cross-site tracking cookies.
  • Strictly necessary cookies may be set by hosting or security providers, for example Cloudflare bot management. These do not identify individual readers for marketing purposes.
  • If ComputeTape introduces additional cookies or similar technologies in the future, the change will be reflected here before they go live, and a consent surface will be shown where required by law.

Email

Morning Brief and email

  • The waitlist currently opens an email to ComputeTape. Your email address is used to send ComputeTape updates and is not sold or rented.
  • If ComputeTape moves the Morning Brief to a hosted email provider, that provider will receive your email address and delivery metadata such as open and click events, IP, and user agent for the purpose of sending and measuring the Morning Brief.
  • Every Morning Brief email will include a one-click unsubscribe link. You can also email the operations address to be removed.

Sponsors

Sponsor placements and sponsor tracking

  • Editorial and sponsor copy are kept visually and structurally separate. Every sponsor placement carries a sponsor or sponsored disclosure label.
  • Sponsor placements are served from ComputeTape’s own pages. They do not load third-party ad networks, behavioral retargeting pixels, or cross-site identifiers.
  • When sponsor performance reporting is introduced, ComputeTape will measure aggregate impressions and clicks on sponsor units. Any per-event identifier used for billing will be limited to the sponsor relationship and not used to profile readers across the web.
  • If a sponsor link takes you to a sponsor’s own site, the sponsor’s privacy practices apply on that site.

Use

How we use the information

  • To operate, secure, and improve computetape.com.
  • To send the Morning Brief and other ComputeTape email you have asked to receive.
  • To measure aggregate readership, Google Search visibility, and the performance of sponsor placements.
  • To respond to your questions and corrections.
  • ComputeTape does not sell reader data and does not share reader data with third parties for their own marketing.

Retention

Data retention

  • Technical logs are retained for the period set by the underlying hosting and CDN providers, typically short windows for operational and security purposes.
  • Email correspondence is retained for as long as it is useful for product, editorial, and business records, or as required by law.
  • Morning Brief subscriber records are retained until you unsubscribe or request deletion.

Your choices

Access, correction, and deletion

  • You can unsubscribe from any ComputeTape email at any time using the link in the email or by emailing the operations address.
  • You can ask ComputeTape what personal information it holds about you, ask for a copy, ask for a correction, or ask for deletion, by emailing the operations address. ComputeTape will respond within the timeframe required by applicable law.
